Thank you for coming this far inland to support Hemet's fire Explorer program. Worth noting that two of Kevin Woyjeck's #GraniteMountainHotshots crew mates were Hemet High School graduates--Christopher MacKenzie and William "Billy" Warneke.
They were among 19 firefighters killed in the Yarnell Hill wildfire in 2013.
September 10,2022 Wow! What a difference a week makes. Last Friday we had perfect weather for the fishing derby, this Friday we have a hurricane. We would have had to postpone if it had been this Friday.
It is with great honor that I announce a $25,000 donation from our friend Lisa. 100 percent of these funds will go to the young men and Women in their pursuit of becoming a first responder. Thank you Lisa!!!! ... See MoreSee Less
Eighteen years ago today we lost a giant. He was serving as our Museum President at the time but he was so much more. A true legend in the fire service, a devoted husband, father, friend and damn good man. If you don’t know the story of James O. Page look him up. You’ll be happy you did. You can start here.
Sept. 2, 2022 The 9th annual Kevin Woyjeck fishing Derby is in the books! We sold out and had a waiting list!!! The boats were full (of love) The weather was perfect! The seas were flat. We found the dorado however they must have had a large breakfast as they were not biting. Not one person on either boat got seasick (that we know of). The day started with check in at 05:30am, it went smoothly and we were able to load the 105 anglers on to both the boats and were away from the dock at about 6:30. The boats were full but we were all friends and we laughed a lot and told stories and laughed at the kids who were having a blast. The winning angler was Derek Uyehara he caught a 25 pound Dorado (Mahi Mahi) it was one of 3 dorado caught on my boat, we also had a few stingrays caught . The second boat (Bobby’s boat) had about the same results. The boats returned to the after party where we found a bunch of supporters waiting for us. The Boathouse restaurant had the outside tent set up, they provided a great spread of heavy appetizers and the view of the bay was incredible. Since Bobby’s boat lost the biggest fish competition Bobby had to jump in the bay! It was fun to watch and I’m sure Kevin would have had a good laugh! We had a great raffle with great sponsors.
For me the ocean is a magical place. I am hoping the few hours on the water helped our guests slow their life down for the day giving them time to reflect on life and bring some focus to what is important in each of their lives.
Thank you all!!! More stories, photos and videos to come.
I want to thank the board.
